    Incrementality Testing

Incrementality testing measures how many conversions your ads actually caused — by comparing a group exposed to ads against a statistically equivalent group that wasn't — separating created revenue from claimed revenue.

    Definition

The designs vary — geo holdouts (turn ads off in matched regions), audience splits, platform lift studies — but the logic is constant: the difference between test and control is the incremental effect. It's the only measurement approach that answers causation; attribution, however sophisticated, only describes correlation along observed paths.

    Why it matters

Incrementality tests are where flattering channels get audited. Retargeting and branded search routinely show large gaps between attributed and incremental results, because they intercept people already converting. A team that runs even two or three tests a year prices its channels dramatically better than one that trusts attribution alone.

    In agentic execution

Test designs need clean execution — regional exclusions, budget holds, timing discipline. Adlyse's agents execute the operational mechanics of a test as specified and approved, so the experiment runs as designed instead of eroding through manual drift.
