    ROAS (Return on Ad Spend)

    Anna Stepura
    May 1, 2026

ROAS is revenue attributed to ads divided by ad spend — a 4x ROAS means $4 of tracked revenue per $1 spent. It's the most-used efficiency metric in paid media and the most commonly misread one.

    Definition

ROAS = attributed revenue ÷ ad spend, calculated per campaign, channel, or account. Its two known blind spots: it depends entirely on the attribution model doing the crediting, and it says nothing about profit — a high-ROAS campaign selling low-margin products can lose money while a lower-ROAS campaign prints it. Platform-reported ROAS and business-truth ROAS are different numbers, and mature teams track both.

    Why it matters

ROAS is where budget conversations happen, so how it's measured quietly decides where money flows. Optimizing purely to platform ROAS drifts spend toward easily-attributed channels (branded search, retargeting) and away from the channels that actually create demand.

    In agentic execution

Adlyse's agents optimize toward the ROAS or value target the team sets and approves — and because they execute across platforms from one layer, budget follows performance in the full account picture, not one platform's self-graded scorecard.
