Value-based bidding is bidding toward conversion value rather than conversion count — telling the platform's AI what each conversion is actually worth so it chases revenue or profit instead of cheap volume.
Definition
Instead of 'get me conversions under $40,' value-based bidding (Target ROAS, Maximize Conversion Value, and their equivalents) optimizes toward the values you pass: order revenue, margin-adjusted value, predicted LTV, or lead scores. The mechanics are only as good as the values — passing flat or inaccurate values makes the strategy indistinguishable from volume bidding, just with extra steps.
Why it matters
Volume-optimized accounts systematically drift toward the cheapest converters, which are rarely the best customers. Value-based bidding is how a business's actual economics get into the auction — and the plumbing (value rules, offline conversion imports, LTV models) is where most implementations quietly fail.
In agentic execution
Adlyse's agents execute the value plumbing and its upkeep — value rules, goal changes, target adjustments as economics shift — so the platforms bid on numbers that reflect the business, with a human approving every change.
